Introduction to Hockey

Summary: This program focuses on introducing children to the concepts of ice skating through non-competitive on-ice activities. This program is intended to provide children with the fundementals necessary to continue on into SYHA's Ice Mite ("Learn to Play") program. Practice sessions are well organized ensuring that the children remain active and are having fun.

Duration: This program runs for eight weeks starting Sunday, October 5, 2008 at 3:00 p.m.

Time Commitment: ITH meets once a week on Sundays. The session times are subject to change, please check the online event calendar to verify session times.

Where: Mandt Community Center in Stoughton.

Age Level: ITH is open to children 4 years of age and up who are just learning to skate. Older skaters, 8 and up, who wish to continue into one of our hockey programs will need to skate at a level appropriate for their age.

Cost: $50.00

Ice Mites

Summary: This program focuses on the fundamentals of ice skating and team work. Skaters will participate in weekly practices and eight to ten non-competitive cross ice games. Practices are structured according to the guidelines set in the USA Hockey Initiation program guide. This program provides a fun, inexpensive way for children to get excited about playing the sport of ice hockey.

Duration: This program runs from early December to March.

Time Commitment: Ice Mite practices are held on Sundays. Specific dates and times will be posted on the website once the ice has been scheduled for the 2008-09 season. Ice Mite games begin in January which may increase the time commitment to twice a week.

Where: Practices are held at the Mandt Community Center in Stoughton. Games will involve limited travel to other area rinks.

Age Level: Ice Mites is open to children between the ages of 4-7.Older Skaters, 8 and up, will need to skate at a level appropriate for their age.

Cost: $50.00 ice fee, $100.00 packet of Raffle Tickets (ten $10.00 tickets that can be re-sold).
