Learn to Skate

Summary: This program focuses on introducing children to the concepts of ice skating through non-competitive on-ice activities. This program is intended to provide children with the fundementals necessary to continue on into SYHA's Mini-Vikes ("Learn to Play") program. Practice sessions are well structured, positive, and done in a FUN and social environment.

Duration: This program runs for eight weeks starting in October 2009. The ice schedule for 2009-10 will be posted in August.

Time Commitment: LTS will meet once a week. The session times are subject to change, please check the online ice schedule to verify session times.

Where: Mandt Community Center in Stoughton.

Age Level: LTS is open to children 4 years of age and up who are just learning to skate. Older skaters, 9 and up, who wish to continue into one of our hockey programs will need to skate at a level appropriate for their age.

Cost: This program is free of charge.

Mini-Vikes Hockey

Summary: SYHA MINI-VIKES HOCKEY is a FUN, enjoyable way to learn to skate and play hockey. This program is for children ages 4-8 who are looking for fun this winter! Skaters will participate in bi-weekly practices which include non-competative cross-ice games. Practices are structured according to the guidelines set in the USA Hockey Initiation Program guide. This program provides a fun, inexpensive way for children to get excited about the sport of ice hockey. Mini-Vikes will offer two different levels. Developmental Level II for skaters moving up from the LTS program and Developmental Level III for skaters getting ready to advance to the competative Mite level. Coaches will assist with determining the appropriate level for your skater.

Duration: This program runs from early October to March.

Time Commitment: Mini-Vikes hockey will meet twice a week. Level III skaters will also participate in limited travel games against other area clubs. Specific dates and times will be posted on the website once the ice has been scheduled for the 2009-10 season.

Where: Practices are held at the Mandt Community Center in Stoughton.

Age Level: Mini-Vikes is open to children between the ages of 4-8. Older Skaters, 9 and up, will need to skate at a level appropriate for their age.

Cost:

  • Level II - $100.00 ice fee, $100.00 packet of Raffle Tickets (ten $10.00 tickets that can be re-sold).
  • Level III - $150.00 ice fee, $100.00 packet of Raffle Tickets (ten $10.00 tickets that can be re-sold).
